Step by Step

The Process, Start to Finish

Three moves from the phone call to a swept floor, and what makes each of them different when the crew doing the hauling is also a licensed demolition contractor.

1

Book Any Day, Almost Any Hour

The phones run seven days a week from 7 in the morning to 10 at night, which is unusual in this trade and deliberate — most people can only deal with a cleanout outside their own working day. Book by 3 PM and same-day is on the table; after that we guarantee the next day. Arrival windows are two hours, not a vague morning-or-afternoon.

2

A Licensed Contractor Prices It

TJ's is a licensed Connecticut home improvement and new construction contractor with a full demolition licence, so the person quoting your job can tell you whether it is a haul, a teardown or a permitted job — and price it accordingly. Light loads price by truck volume; concrete, brick, shingles and soil price by the bed. You see which one applies and what it costs before anyone starts.

3

Cleared, Swept, and Handed Back

Eight full-time crew means we can put the right number of people on a job instead of stretching one pair across a whole house. Everything comes out from wherever it sits, the space gets swept, and if the job was demolition the debris leaves with the same crew that created it.

No Surprises

Two Rate Cards, Both Published

Quoted Free, Declined Free

Coming out to look costs nothing, and neither does sending us away afterwards. There is no trip fee and no deposit holding the window.

Volume for Household, Bed for Heavy

Ordinary loads price by the fraction of the truck they fill, across thirteen published steps. Concrete, brick, soil, roofing and shingles price by the bed, because weight is what fills the truck first.

Published Recycling Rates

Labour, the truck, the carrying and disposal sit inside the number. Tyres, freon appliances, electronics and mattresses carry facility fees, and those are printed on the pricing page rather than raised at the end.

Quick Answers

Common Questions

How late can I actually reach someone?

Ten at night, every day of the week including Sunday. That is a real answering window rather than a voicemail box, and it exists because cleanouts tend to get decided in the evening after somebody has spent the day staring at a garage.

What is the difference between a truck load and a bedload?

Truck loads are volume — the fraction of the body your pile fills, in thirteen published steps from a minimum charge to a full load. Bedloads are for dense material: concrete, brick, dirt, roofing and shingles, where weight rather than space is what limits the truck. Those carry their own published rates. The walkthrough decides which one your job is, and mixed jobs get quoted as both.

Do you handle the demolition as well as the hauling?

Yes, and that is the part most junk removal outfits cannot do. TJ's carries a full demolition licence alongside the contractor licence, so interior strip-outs, kitchens, bathrooms, garages and whole structures are done in-house. The debris leaves with the same crew, which is what stops a teardown turning into two separate bookings.

Are the trade specialists your own people?

The eight-person cleanout and demo crew is ours. For work that legally requires a licensed trade — plumbing, electrical, HVAC on a remodel — we bring in a small group of subcontractors we have used for years rather than pretending we do it all ourselves. You are told which is which before the job starts.

Do I need to be there the whole time?

Only long enough to walk it with the crew and agree the number. After that people go to work, run errands or stay and watch — it makes no difference to the price. For anything indoors we do need somebody there at the start to confirm what stays.

What does the quote leave out?

Very little. Labour, the truck, the loading, the carrying and disposal all sit inside it. What is billed separately is the material the state or the facility charges for by the piece — tyres, freon appliances, electronics, mattresses — and those rates are published rather than mentioned at the end.

Can you take on a hoarding or estate situation?

Regularly, and they are handled differently to a garage clear-out. Those jobs get scheduled with more crew and more time, sorting rather than shovelling, and nobody on the truck is going to comment on what is in the house. If paperwork, photographs or valuables need setting aside, say so at the walkthrough and we work around it.

How far do you actually travel?

Hartford County is home ground, with Middlesex and Tolland counties covered as standard and New London County added recently. If you are outside that ring, call anyway — the answer depends on the size of the job more than the distance.

Not sure whether your job is a haul, a demo, or both? Describe it on the phone — that answer is free and usually takes a minute.
