Garage demolition is a major project that requires licensed expertise, equipment, and safe debris handling. TJ's Cleanouts holds Connecticut demolition and Home Improvement Contractor licenses. We handle detached garages, attached garages, and workshop structures from initial teardown through foundation removal and site clearing.

Whether you're removing an old detached garage, clearing space for a new addition, or demolishing a deteriorated structure, our licensed crew manages the complete process. Permits are obtained, utilities are safely disconnected, and all debris including concrete and wood framing is hauled away in-house.

Garage demo is one of our signature services. We assess the structure on-site, provide a firm upfront quote, and schedule the work to fit your timeline. Most detached garage demolition takes 2-5 days depending on size and whether concrete removal is included.

Garage demolition pricing is based on structure size, materials, and whether concrete is removed. We assess on-site and provide a complete, upfront quote with no surprises. Debris haul and site clearing are included.

Our Process

01
Structural Assessment & Permits

We inspect the garage foundation, roof condition, utility connections, and setback from property lines. Building permits and utility-disconnect permits are obtained if required. Most municipalities require a Demolition Permit for garage teardown.

02
Utility Disconnection

Licensed electricians disconnect power at the panel. Gas lines and water lines are capped. This is handled safely and to code before any structural work begins.

03
Systematic Teardown

Roofing is removed first, then walls and framing, leaving the foundation. Salvageable lumber, metal, and siding go to recyclers or donation centers where accepted. Mixed debris is loaded into our truck.

04
Foundation & Concrete Removal

If concrete removal is included, we haul the slab and foundation debris. Site is graded level and cleaned. Optional: we leave the foundation for future construction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need a permit to demolish a detached garage?

Yes. Connecticut requires a Building or Demolition Permit for any garage teardown. Some municipalities also require a separate Electrical Disconnection Permit. We handle all permits as part of your quote. Permits typically take 3-5 business days to clear.

Can you remove the concrete foundation, or should we leave it?

Your choice. We can haul the concrete slab and break up the foundation, or leave the foundation in place for future construction. Concrete removal adds time and cost but leaves a clean, level site. Decide during your estimate.

How long does garage demolition take?

Detached single-car garage: 2-3 days. Two-car or larger garage: 3-5 days. Timing depends on structure size, whether concrete is removed, and site access. We confirm the schedule during your estimate.

What happens to the debris?

Salvageable wood and metal go to recyclers or donation centers where accepted. Roofing, drywall, and mixed construction waste go to licensed disposal facilities. All debris is hauled in-house; no contractor is left with a pile of waste to manage.

Will demolition disturb my neighbors?

Garage demolition is noisy. We typically work Mon–Fri, 7am–5pm. We notify neighbors when we begin and keep dust control in place. If your property is close to neighbors, we can schedule teardown strategically to minimize impact.

Can we salvage materials or reuse lumber?

Yes. Clean lumber, metal, and intact fixtures can be salvaged. If you want to reuse material, let us know and we'll set it aside on-site for you. Some customers donate reclaimed wood to local salvage centers; we can coordinate that too.
